Electronic Signs

Kryous superways make extensive use of electronic signs and signals.  Using this technology allows Kryous Transport to quickly respond to the demands of the roads minute by minute,  thus ensuring motorists have the information they need to make well informed decisions concerning their travels.  Electronic signs are used to display lane closures, warn of accidents  & construction, relay traffic & weather information, and pass any other information to motorists at the flip of a switch.

Lane Signals

Lane signals provide instructions specifically for the lane they appear above (each lane has its own signal).  There are two types of lane signals: closure signals and regulation signals.

Closure Signals

Lane Closure signals are used during construction to redirect traffic around obstacles.  These signals are also used after accidents to guide traffic around blocked lanes, dually aiding emergency workers by providing clear lanes in which to reach the event.  There are three symbols used to direct traffic.

Symbol Meaning
Green Arrow The lane under the signal is open
Yellow Arrow  The arrow points in the direction to merge
Red X  The lane under the signal is closed

Below is an example of a lane closure overhead display.  This simulation is what a motorist would see as they drive toward lane closures.  The white text explains what the signals mean and what the motorist should do, if anything.

Regulation Signals

Regulation Signals show what is or is not allowed in the lane over which the signal is positioned.  These signals show any of the following:  Maximum Speed, Recommended Speed, Maximum Truck Speed,  No Trucks Allowed.

This example shows all of the signals used for lane regulation.

Message Gantries

Although lane signals are very important, the backbone of the electronic infrastructure is the Message Gantries.  Each gantry is equipped with three signs.  A three line variable message sign is centre mounted over the roadway.  On either side of this is a smaller graphical sign that displays the type of message being displayed on the centre board.  In zones with maximum speed limits each gantry may display two messages at a time.  In areas without restrictions each gantry may display only one message.  There are seven types of messages, listed below, that can be displayed on a message gantry.  Following the list is an example of each type of message (messages will automatically change).
